Ana Marika Michelena is visual artist and oil painter based in the Philippines, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines and further training at Galvez Atelier,.
Her practice is grounded in careful observation and a deep attention to detail, extending beyond the painting itself to the pigments, surfaces, and materials used to make it. Each material is researched and selected with the same consideration given to the painting.
Animals have always been part of her life, particularly cats. Years of living alongside them have brought a familiarity with their individual habits, expressions, and peculiarities, and an appreciation for the very particular place they come to occupy in a home.
These are the things she brings to every commission: a trained hand, careful materials, and a personal understanding of what animals can come to mean in a life.
